From time to time we need to make some important and difficult decisions in life in order to move forward. So does Alfred. After months of consideration, we decided that from version 3.8.68, Alfred will stop supporting Viewer mode on devices running Android 4.1 and below.
These devices will continue to operate as Cameras with exactly the same features supported in previous versions. They just can’t be set as Viewers anymore. We are still committed to providing Camera support with feature/stability improvements as part of Alfred’s mission to transform your old phones into security cameras.
We understand that some of you might be disappointed. Alfred has always been trying hard to provide the best and the most consistent user experience on all devices from day 1. However, it has become increasingly difficult for the engineering team to make devices with such dated Android versions run just as well as the latest phones. Attempting to do this holds us back from developing new features and incorporating new functionalities available on the new versions of Android. As we want Alfred to keep getting better, it is time to move on.
We appreciate your understanding and continuous support. We hope Alfred will continue to serve as your security/baby/pet cam!
