After long consideration, we have made a difficult decision to stop tech support for Viewer mode on devices running iOS 8 and Android 4.4 or below starting from December 2019, because of the increasing challenges for our engineering teams to maintain product on such dated OS versions.
We understand that some of you might be disappointed. Alfred has always been trying hard to provide the best and the most consistent user experience on all devices from day 1. However, as we want Alfred to keep getting better, it is time to move on.
Here are some useful information to help with the transition:
What will happen after tech support for Viewer mode stopped?
These devices will continue to operate as Cameras with exactly the same features supported in previous versions. We are still committed to providing Camera support with feature/stability improvements.
However, our team will no longer be fixing any issue or adding new functionalities related to Viewer mode for devices running those OS versions. Sometimes in 2020 Q1 we will remove the option for you to set Viewer mode in the app updates.
Can I continue to use these devices as Viewer?
This is not recommended but you can. Just stay on the current version and do not update the app if you really need Viewer mode support for the device. Please be noted the version may still stop working in the future as we move on. We will announce the information by then.
I don't have another device that can be set as Viewer. What can I do?
Don't worry, you can also watch live feed on your computer. Go check out Alfred WebViewer. https://alfred.camera/webapp/login
We appreciate your understanding and continuous support. We hope Alfred will continue to serve as your security/baby/pet cam!
Please check the deprecation schedule in the table below.
