As the iOS development environment continues to evolve along with new iOS versions released, supporting iOS 9 has become more difficult. As a result, starting in the year 2022, Alfred will stop releasing updates for iOS 9 or below.
What devices will be affected by these changes?
If you are using iOS 9 devices (listed below), they will only work as Camera mode by the end of 2021:
- iPhone 4s
- iPad 2
- iPad 3
- iPad mini 1
- iPod touch 5
If your iOS device is eligible to update to iOS 10 or above, please update soon so that AlfredCamera will continue to support your device in both Camera and Viewer mode. iPhone 5 and newer are eligible to update to at least iOS 10. For more information on updating your device, please see Apple’s help center.
If your iOS devices are already using iOS 10 or above, you will not be affected by these changes.
What will happen after tech support for Viewer mode stopped?
These devices will continue to operate as Cameras with exactly the same features supported in previous versions. We are still committed to providing Camera support with feature/stability improvements.
However, our team will no longer be fixing any issue or adding new functionalities related to Viewer mode for devices running those OS versions. Sometime at the end of 2021, new app versions will no longer allow you to use Viewer mode on iOS 9 or below.
I don't have another device that can be used as a Viewer. What can I do?
Don't worry, you can also watch the live feed on your computer. Go check out Alfred WebViewer: https://alfred.camera/webapp/viewer
We appreciate your understanding and continuous support. We hope Alfred will continue to serve as your security/baby/pet cam!
