There are three types of videos/footage: Events, Moments, and Playback.
- Events are automatically-recorded videos triggered by Activity Detection and Sound Detection
- Moments are manually recorded videos (max 30 seconds) from Live
- Playback is an 8-hour recording loop video from the Continuous Recording

Events
Events are automatically generated when Activity Detection and Sound Detection are triggered. The Events are stored on the Camera device itself, with the storage duration dependent on the available space, up to a maximum of 7 days.
Each Event typically lasts between 5 and 30 seconds. However, if movement persists beyond 30 seconds, Alfred segments the continuous movement into several clips, grouping them as one Event Group, which is formed every 30 minutes, encompassing all automatically recorded clips within that timeframe.
When there are many events, you can use the Event Filter at the top of the event list to quickly sort by event type, making it easier to find important clips. AlfredCamera currently offers event filter types including Person, Sound, Pet, Vehicle, and Moment.
⚠️Note: When storage space is low, older videos will be overwritten by new ones, potentially reducing the storage duration.
Upgrading to Premium allows an upgrade with cloud storage for these Events, ensuring a 14-day retention period without relying on the device's internal storage. This cloud feature enables access to the Events from anywhere, at any time. Additionally, with Premium, the maximum recording duration for an Event can extend to 120 seconds in cases of ongoing motion.
Here's how to view your events:
- Tap on the Events
- Select the event type you want to view
- Choose the event group
- Tap on the specific event
Moments
Moments are manually recorded from Live, the minimum length is 5 seconds and the maximum length is 30 seconds.
Upgrading to Premium allows you to start recording instantly whenever you notice something important during your Live session. This recording feature is especially ideal for your personal use, such as interactions, family gatherings, or pet behavior.
To manually record videos from Live:
- Choose a Camera device to stream Live
- Tap on the Record icon to start recording
- Tap on the Stop icon to end the recording
- The resulting video recording will be saved in the Event Book (use the “Moment” filter)
⚠️ Note: If you tap on the back button at any point during the recording session, the recording session will fail and the footage will not be saved.
Playback
Playback is a loop recording that overwrites the oldest video with the new one.
To view your Playback, please
- Make sure your Camera device is online
- Start a Live Session
- Tap Playback
- Tap and drag the timeline to view recorded footage from a specific time
⚠️ Note:
- With Activity Detection enabled, the timeline will show red bars at points where motion was detected.
-
You may also pinch or zoom in to change the scale on the timeline.
To sum it up, we prepared a chart to assist you in better understanding the differences between the video types:

How many videos are allowed to be saved in Alfred’s cloud during the storage period?
Although your Event videos are only saved for a limited number of days, the good news is that there are no limits on the number of videos you can save during the storage period!
Is it safe to save my videos on Alfred’s cloud?
Your privacy and security are Alfred's top concerns. Therefore, Alfred has established strict policies and technical barriers, such as encrypted Live communications or Amazon as 3rd-party service providers to prevent any possible attack and unauthorized access to your data.
How do I download the videos?
You can download your Event and Moment in your Event book.
Upgrading to Premium allows you to download 10 videos at once.
However, please note that the AlfredCamera app does not support downloading the full loop of your Playback at the moment. As an alternative, you can make a screen recording of the Playback to store these important clips.
Can I retrieve expired/deleted videos?
After the Events exceed their preservation date, are overwritten, or are manually deleted, they will be automatically removed from the system. Due to privacy reasons, once a video has been deleted, it cannot be recovered.
In line with our commitment to safeguarding your privacy, we do not have access to your data. This ensures that only you have control over your videos and their content. We recommend being cautious while managing your videos to avoid unintentional loss.
Can I store the videos on the external SD card or any other cloud service?
For the mobile Camera devices, changing the video storage location is not supported at the moment. If you’re running low on the Camera storage, please free up some space on your Camera device by following the steps below:
- Android device: https://support.google.com/android/answer/7431795?
- iOS device: https://support.apple.com/HT206504
Why do my recordings still stop at 30 seconds after upgrading to Premium?
Events triggered by detection can be recorded for extended lengths after upgrading to Premium. On the other hand, Moments have a set maximum duration of 30 seconds. This limit is designed to optimize the storage and management of these quick, on-the-spot captures, ensuring that you can efficiently document and review specific instances of interest.
How to Quickly View Playback Clips via Events?
When viewing an Event, you can use the “View in Playback” feature to quickly and seamlessly jump to the corresponding time in the Playback, allowing you to review continuous recording footage before and after the Event. This feature is available to Premium users and helps you quickly locate and review the full event process, reducing unnecessary steps, improving efficiency, and making it easier to find the parts you care about.
How to use this feature?
- Make sure Continuous Recording is enabled.
- Enter the Event Play.
- Tap ‘View in Playback’.
- The screen will navigate to the Playback at the Event’s time point.
⚠️ Note:
- This feature requires the Camera to be online and the event time to be within the Playback recording range. If the event time is outside the playback range, this feature will not be available.
- When you receive a notification, the playback clip may still need to be fully generated, causing the 'View in Playback' button to be grayed out and unavailable. In such cases, please return to the Camera List and wait for 1-2 minutes. After that, return to the Event Play, and the button should become available.
